Just put in a new comment system. I’ve been a little dissatisfied with WordPress’s default (mostly in the threading system going down to about the width of my thumb). I’m attempting Disqus at the moment, and while it looks all pretty right in in these first five minutes, you guys are the best judge of what you like. Let me know if you like it, hate it, think it’s broken, all that shit.

Also I think it will keep up the email notifications of comments that was requested from before, but if not, poke me.

I click the blue login link and it takes me to the top of the page. Maybe it is not supposed to be there?

Hm, I have no idea. But I thought I’d reply to your reply to begin a test thread. But I really kind of wanted to title my comment and I see that’s not an option. If it were, I would have posted, “Does Your Blog Now Smell of Rich, Corinthian Leather?”

I’ll see if there’s a way to make comment subjects. Can’t be denied leather in any form!

Test reply through Chrome. Getting email notifications?

      • Stephanie Richards

        Haven’t seen any emails yet….

Okay, think I got it. For my dummy account, I checked a box to notify me of replies. It then sent me a verification email with a link I had to click. Once I did that, I started getting replies to both of my tests but had only clicked to notify me on one, so it’s an account setting versus a per-thread setting, like it was with the old comment system.

Also, with my main account, I can set to receive notifications. At the top where that login link was, there’s a “Disqus” button. Editing the notifications does the trick!

Hm. Are you able to get to the profile settings? Made a couple screen grabs:

Hmm. :/ I must be missing something as those are my settings and still no emails.

My next thought: maybe the notifications are getting caught by your email provider’s spam filter?

              • Stephanie

Nope. :( I will keep messing with the settings.

I’ll keep looking on my end too.

        Reply notice 2a.

Hm, my Login link took me to a popout window. Yours didn’t do anything, just shot you to the top of the page?

      • Stephanie

It did the first couple times, now it works, of course. I acutally logged in using the Disqus drop down. Now it’s a non issue seeing as I’ll be permanently logged in.

We’ll sort it. I like that it’s now attributing the other posts you made here to you too though, that’s yay.

Just gotta get the email notice working now. On my test I had a “notify me of email replies” box that I checked. I’ll reply to myself in a sec, see if that works.

          • Stephanie

Is this really going to solve the skinny comment problem? You may just have to move to a 2-column format, moving the side-boxes to just one side to increase room for the center portion. :/

            • Anonymous

It’s looking a bit better already. With my comment we’ll be six deep and it doesn’t feel quite as claustrophobic. I have a bit more flexibility in the styling too (I can write up some new CSS to play with margins if I need), or there’s a flatter comment style to try too.

Or yeah, switching to 2 columns is always an option. :)

I think I like the look though. It’s a bit cleaner. How about you, what do you think? Initial login issues aside of course.

              • Stephanie

I do agree with you it’s a better look!!

Creating a Disqus profile it found my gravatar! Oh happy day.

Yay the Funkitron 5000 is back!

So yeah, trying through IE now. The login link gave me a popup like it did on the other browsers as well. Could be your work browser stopping it. Also though, I can just straight reply and the “post as” link does the same login popup. I’ll be curious to know what if anything that does for you.

Looks like you can post either way at least, which is good. Just gotta sort out the email notification now …
