The Pull List, 17 August 2011

My name is Jet Wolf, and I’m addicted to comic books. Every week since 1987 I’ve had comics pulled and waiting to fall into my eager hands. It’s a practice that’s survived multiple comic shops, a cross-country move, and the entire 1990s. I’ve always loved talking about them after reading, first boring friends too polite to tell me they didn’t care, then babbling with my future husband in the proto-internet, and finally spreading my opinions […]

Breaking the Bat(girl?)

Tonight in conversation with Mike, Amy and Scott, a thought occurred to me. Secret Six ended with Bane returned to his path of violence against Batman. His latest plan hinges not on assaulting Batman himself but destroying the Batfamily. The Robins, Huntress, Azrael and Batgirl are all specifically named. There’s even pictures of each, though Batgirl is, of course, Stephanie Brown. Gail Simone (writer of Secret Six) said today on Twitter: “Everything that is in […]

Of Batgirls and the 31st Century.

So it’s still All DC, All The Time on the Comics Internet. Monday, DC blew everyone’s mind when they released this little nugget: The cover for the new Batgirl title featuring the return of Barbara Gordon to the role. Which presents a bit of a problem as Barbara’s been in a wheelchair since the Joker shot her in 1988’s The Killing Joke. Since that time she’s become Oracle, the DCU’s master behind-the-scenes hacker and tactician […]

How I Learned To Love Digital

The week I finally decide to get on my comic reviews is the week they’re all delayed due to Memorial Day because of course they are. Never let it be said that Jet Wolf won’t take lemons and make exploding lemons, so this seems a good opportunity to segue into the other, non-reboot news coming from DC yesterday: Same day and date digital distribution. This is huge. Digital comics aren’t a new thing – .cbr […]

Crisis on Infinite Wolves

I’ve been absent from my blog. From much of online, in truth. There have been Things. But there will always be Things. So it goes. Here’s some stuff I’ve been saving up to talk at you about. ~~~~~~~~~~ I’ve been watching TV lately. By that, I mean watching programs within a week of when they air. As someone whose natural proclivity is to TiVo an entire season and a half before I bother watching (if […]

Whose woods these are.

I want to write something. I want to write something but my brain is so tired. You ever feel like maybe sometimes you’re in the wrong head? That’s me tonight. Unsettling. Not of the norm. Of course I suffer from depression, like, constantly, so it’s tough to get a bead on what “norm” means for me. But whatever this is, I don’t think it’s it. I had several people ask me about the demos I […]

A Href = Monday 7 June

The Internet’s a big place. There are at least 100 different sites out there! How will you ever find the time to sift through the dregs for the funniest macros, the awesomest pictures, the interestingest lists? You can’t. It’s impossible. Don’t try. Instead, let Jet Wolf do it for you. Here’s today’s dose of random shit that I took the trouble to bookmark, just for you. Not much struck me since the last A Href, […]

For the Love of Wednesdays

Today is Wednesday, and Wednesday means one thing: New Comic Day. I’m thrilled to be back to a time when that means something. It’s not quite to level of the late 80s, when Claremont ruled my X-world and I think it’s entirely possible I bought one of every book released. And sometimes two. But then I have a mortgage now so maybe that’s for the best. Since we moved to our house and claimed one […]
