PAX 2011, Day 3

Sleep was again interrupted but with the final day of PAX ahead we couldn’t let a tiny little thing like exhaustion get in the way. There were games to demo that I hadn’t yet demoed and many photos to photo that I hadn’t yet photoed. Previously on PAX’11:

PAX 2011, Day 2

The night was restless, but PAX waits for no one. We’d decided that of all the big ticket games, we had one in particular that we were going to aim for first thing; the siren song of the shirt was playing loudly in our mind. We could sleep later. In new shirts! The story so far: Day 0 | Day 1 pt 1 | Day 1 pt 2 | Day 1 pt 3     […]

PAX 2011: Day 1, Part 3

The sun is setting on the first day of PAX [Part 1] [Part 2], but the night is still ahead. There will be music, and haunted bubble toilets. The adventure – much like this write-up – never ends.       When we last left our intrepid duo, the Main Hall was closing. The geek exodus had begun. On the left you can see the booth for Prototype 2. The first game had this infamous […]

PAX 2011: Day 1, Part 2

A tasty lunch of peanut butter has been consumed. Caffeine has been ingested. The remainder of Day 1 lies ahead. [Part 1 is here.] Our slow but relentless conquering of PAX 2011 continues.       Lunch helped shake off whatever remained of the previous night and we skipped merrily back to the Convention Center (note: may contain less merry skipping than advertised). This time we started near the top and soon found ourselves in […]

PAX 2011: Day 1, Part 1

Greetings and welcome to PAX Day 1. To enjoy our drunken pre-PAX adventures, you can read about Day 0 here.         Morning came, as mornings so often do, far too early. Still there was no time to wallow in the lingering embrace of hangover, not with so many lines to stand in! We made it to the Queue Room around 9am. Giant black beach balls were already being punted around the room. […]

PAX 2011, Day 0

PAX 2011 may be many weeks gone but heaven forbid I let it pass without excessive commentary. I approached the convention with no small trepidation this year, and while it wasn’t quite the mind-blowing time I’ve had previous, it was still crazy fun and I’m glad I didn’t let the sour taste keep me away.     PAX, the Penny Arcade Expo – gaming convention without compare. For four days my husband Mike and I […]

Give me Planarite or give me death.

I thought today about the things I need to do. Thinking about them was about as far as I got. Tomorrow, I shall MAKE A LIST. Tremble, world, at my list makitude. One of those Things is doing my PAX write-up. It’s great because right now I think “Oh I can probably get all four days into one post.” Then I remember I took like 600 pictures and laugh and laugh and laugh and then […]

Why we PAX.

As mentioned, we’re off to PAX tomorrow. When I last really talked about PAX there was much Sturm und Drang and I was unsure how we’d proceed. Clearly that decision was reached. It didn’t come easy, and I’m still a little uncertain, truth be told. But after a lot of talking and even more thinking, I decided that turning away from PAX was to surrender it, and the culture of so many things I love. […]

Affectionately called "The Danger Room".

I got all kinds of sick yesterday I think. I woke up not feeling great and come 2pm I was flagging badly and spent the night wrapped up in a blanket playing DeathSpank. Finished it, by the way. I remember my olden days of yore where I never finished a single bloody game ever. I’ve been playing games since the Atari 2600 was new, and the first game I ever played through to the end […]

Go, and be Dickwolves no more.

I’ve talked like way more about this than anyone probably should. If you’re just joining in and wondering how I got here or looking for more detailed thoughts as this debacle unfolded, please see my previous posts: The Boys Club, part 2 | On the turning away. | Life after Dickwolves? All things remaining as they stand now, this is my final post on the matter of Dickwolves. This has eaten up a large part […]
